January 23rd, 2012
Last year I made one of the more important discoveries of my new DC residency,
and perhaps of my life:   the Washington Bach Consort.   I have begun what I hope is a long and fruitful collaboration with this sensational ensemble by producing this video promoting their next concert:  Bach's iconic masterpiece "The Art of the Fugue."  I hope to help others (i.e. you!) to get to know them and their music.  Whether you live near or far, they are not to be missed!   Thanks
to Executive Director Marc Eisenberg for making my involvement possible, to Music Director J. Reilly Lewis for a thrilling musical afternoon of filming, and to Phil Carluzzo for his invaluable on-set assistance!

January 8th, 2012   The Donald Margulies play Time Stands Still, directed by Susan Fenichell, opens tonight at Studio Theatre in Washington, DC with some newly composed music by yours truly.   Peter Marks of the Washington Post writes in his review "...the show's sense of good flow [is] echoed in Eric Shimelonis's music..."    I have posted the main theme on the music page for your listening enjoyment.

October/November, 2011    ...a nice long stint at the Juilliard School, working with the drama division on three contemporary plays.   This marks my 11th year and 13th show as a guest artist there.

April 29th, 2011   Honored to have received my first  Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Sound Design for my work on Adam Rapp's Hallway Trilogy.  (see the February 18th entry below)

April 13th, 2011   I am performing with friend and fellow composer Phil Carluzzo in his dissertation recital at the Catholic University of America.  This is his final recital before officially becoming "Dr. Phil."  (Congratulations!)  Look for Phil's work with the Snark Ensemble - they are known for their amazing silent film scores.

February 28th, 2011    I was rather surprised to have gotten a 2010 Big Easy Award nomination for Best Musical Director for my work on the New Orleans production of the Broadway musical Grey Gardens.  Bradley Troll writes in his review: "Musical Director Eric Shimelonis skillfully oversees a lovely array of both vocal and instrumental work -- finally a musical production in New Orleans in which the actors' voices and the orchestra blend beautifully!"

February 18th, 2011   Adam Rapp's Hallway Trilogy opens this week at Rattlestick Theatre in NYC.  The three plays are set fifty years apart: 1953, 2003, and 2053, and each takes place in the same Lower East Side apartment hallway.   Michael Glitz writes in his review:  "The music and sound design are by Eric Shimelonis.  Normally, one doesn't think to comment on the sound design -- that's when you know they've done their job. In rare cases, it's flashy work and you tip your hat to it.  Here, the sound is seamless. It's a model of efficiency and effectiveness in establishing the era, the time of day and the life outside, all without ever calling undue attention to itself."

December 1st, 2010   I have polished my old Boy Scout bugle, and am volunteering with Bugles Across America in an effort to insure that dying veterans receive their proper honors with a live rendition of taps.   These ceremonies must  unfortunately sometimes resort to a recording.
Thankfully, over 7500 buglers nationwide have volunteered to provide this important honor.  Please consider a donation to B.A.A.

September 16th, 2010   I have contributed some music to ceramic artist (and friend) Natalie Blake's video documenting her method of carving her beautiful curved clay panels.  Have a look (and listen):

May 23rd, 2010    Congratulations to my good friend, violinist Christian Hebel, on his marriage to the beautiful and talented Tiffany Haas!   It was a wonderful ceremony in Colonial Williamsburg with performances by fellow Voice Of The City Ensemble members Matthew Lehmann and Philip Payton, a host of Broadway talent, and Christian himself dancing a Bavarian Schuhplattler (a la Clark W. Griswold) with his father and brother.

January 15th, 2010      A sold-out night at Carnegie Hall!   Thanks to all of you who attended the concert, and to all of you who gave your support and encouragement throughout the process.

December 20th, 2009   I had the pleasure of backing up talented singer-songwriter Laura Tsaggaris in a performance at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage.  I was on bass, with Phil Carluzzo on piano, Tim Lyons on guitar, and Paul Garisto on drums.  The Kennedy Center does a beautiful job at archiving these performances, and you can watch this one by clicking here.

December 15th, 2009  Tickets now on sale for the upcoming Carnegie Hall concert:

January 15th, 2008      Here is my scene with Will Ferrell from the film "Winter Passing."  (I am offscreen, as usual, on guitar.)

April 5th, 2007
I have received my first  Lucille Lortel Award nomination for my work on Adam Rapp's Essential Self Defense, which ran earlier this year at Playwrights Horizons.

THE END  (or more accurately: THE BEGINNING)
